Senior Girls Basketball
While some of the girls began training in September, we all joined together in early November to build our skills as a team. We had a heavy practice schedule that got us into shape quickly to get ready for our first tournament at SMUS in Victoria. We showed huge potential by never giving up through shortages of players that we soon realized would be a common occurrence at our tournaments and games.
As we returned from winter break, we quickly got back into the swing of things with an away tournament in Port Coquitlam. We faced some strong teams and came away with one win for the weekend. Once again, we were low on legs but we continued to push ourselves and see glimpses of a team with promise.
With our Showcase game on the horizon, we persevered through our struggle with numbers and worked together as a team to build both our offensive and defensive skills. Although it was a close match, we couldn’t pull away with the win against Shawnigan.
Our season came to an end with a play-in for the South Island Tournament. It was a intense game and unfortunately we ended up losing by just one point. We were all filled with emotion, and I know we all ended the game knowing that our all was out on the court.
As this is my final year at Brentwood I want to say a thank you to the girls on this year’s team for making my last year so memorable. I could not have hoped for a better group to play with in my Grade 12 year and to lead as Captain. I am sad to be leaving you all but I know you all have so much potential and I look forward to hearing about your season next year.
We would not have been able to grow and build our skills without the support of our coaches. A huge thank you to Mr Doman, Mr Blake and Ms Ostopovich for encouraging us through our highs and lows, as well as a thank you to Sam for keeping us healthy. We would not have made it through the season without all of your support, and we hope that we made you all proud at our efforts to be the hardest working team.
