Senior Crews to race at Prestigious Opening Day Regatta

29 April 2009

The rowing club received confirmation yesterday that both the senior men and senior women crews have been invited to compete in Seattle (at the University of Washington) this weekend at the Opening Day Regatta. This is a world class event hosted by the Windermere Group. National team crews from Brazil and Australia will race in the showcase event. Our two teams will be racing against the best high schools in the Pacific Northwest. The races take place on the university's 2000 m course between Lake Union and Lake Washington. The first 1500 m is covered along the side of the course with hundreds of yachts there to celebrate the opening of the yachting season. The last 500 m goes through the "cut" between the two lakes. Here there will be thousands of spectators to cheer on the crews and watch the parade at the end of the races. Last year it was estimated that there were nearly 200,000 people along the course to watch the races. The two crews will be travelling to Seattle on Friday morning where they will take part in a practice on the course. In the evening, the crews will be guests at the Seattle Yacht Club for dinner hosted by Brentwood alum Alex Lee (Class of 1998).
