With only two practices under our belt back in early September, confidence was not at a high as the team headed off to SMUS for the ISAs. Finding chemistry within the young squad proved to be difficult as the first game ended in defeat. In between the loss and warmup for the second game of the day, Alex B commented on the game saying, “Boys, we need to come together as a unit if we want to fight our way up to the top.”  These inspirational words had an impact on the “unit” as we played like a completely new team, one with players willing to put it all on the line. Honouring the 92 year old rivalry between Brentwood and Shawnigan, the boys were pumped as they had the opportunity to continue the tradition of stomping on local rivals. A competitive match, filled with high elbows and more ankle than ball stayed even throughout the 90 minutes. Being on the field you could still see the impressed smirk on Coach Lumsden’s face as the new Grade 11s remained cool, calm, and collected in this nerve-wrenching game, led by Nauman Khattak, otherwise known as “lil’ Salman”. Shutting the door on the Shawnigan penalty takers, Big Vic led our team to victory.  2015, the year of the Brazilian Monster, Bruno Chan, had us in high spirits. For our first league game we hopped on the bus for the 15 minute journey to Mr. Patel’s old domain for another dominating win over Shawnigan. Adriaan De Beer had the performance of his career, capping it off with a goal.  Throughout the rest of the season the Brentwood team strengthened in many aspects, and individuals became known as stars, such as speedy Tyler David. Up front, Breno Chan led the way, scoring 14 goals in 17 games. It was a season to remember for the athletic and academic prodigy. Finishing the league just shy of qualifying for North Islands, Salman Khattak paved the way for a playoff win to earn the wildcard spot.  Shaky at times, but well organized for the most part, the boys managed to secure a spot to Islands with a win over Gulf Islands SS. With a majority of the Grade 12s on uni tour, Kaali Allan and Champ had to lead a young squad on the pitch in Victoria. The team’s confidence, however, was high after capturing a draw against the top ranked school in our opening game. Unfortunately, in the next two games came two more draws. Our road to Provincials had come to an end too soon. Although our season had ended there, an undefeated weekend at Islands was one to remember. Thanks to coaches Lumsden and Horth for their excellent leadership. It was tons of fun. Kaali A & Salman K
