Senior Boys soccer: Island playoffs

Friday, November 07, 2008 - By: gord horth

The senior boys soccer team played well in the Island Championship playoffs, but fell short of qualifying for a berth in the Provincial Championships. In pool play, the team faced the #1 seed Reynolds in the first game and ultimately conceded 0-3. The second game saw the team take on a good Shawnigan Lake School side. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but in the ensuing penalty shootout Brentwood prevailed with all five shooters hitting their mark. In a 'must-win' situation, the last match was an open back-and-forth affair, but St. Michaels emerged with the narrow 1-0 victory. All games were played in difficult weather conditions, but the level of sportsmanship and effort exhibited by the team was superb.
