Senior Boys Scramble to Victory over Shawnigan

20 January 2012

It was not a pretty game. Both teams struggled to execute, which has become the norm in the SLS-BCS rivalry games where the players seem to feel the pressure more than usual. A large and boisterous Shawnigan crowd turned out for the affair and we were well represented by a bus load of Grade 12s whose support was much appreciated.

With BCS settling for quick shots, and Shawnigan winning the battle on the boards, the first half was not going well for our team until Alex P sparked us with some aggressive play off the bench which allowed Brentwood to crawl into half-time with a narrow, 23-20, lead.

In the third quarter, the boys settled down a little, played tough at the defensive end, moved the ball well on offense, and despite missing a number of excellent opportunities, capitalized on the hot shooting of David L whose 12pts in the quarter helped push Brentwood to a 44-24 lead heading into the fourth.

Shawnigan’s trapping zone defense seemed to give us some trouble in the last quarter as our offense stalled, but a decent defensive effort kept the Stags at bay as Brentwood closed things out with a 52-30 win.

Brentwood next plays GISS on Friday, January 27 as we kick off our annual 16 team “Countdown to the Playoffs” tournament. The tourney is co-hosted by Shawnigan Lake and will showcase some of the top AA teams from around the province.
