16 January 2012

The Senior Boys Basketball team played some much improved basketball on the weekend and managed to capture third place in the prestigious Victoria City Police Tournament. In the opening round we faced a scrappy team from Charles Hays, Prince Rupert, but excellent energy off the bench from William L helped spark a 16-2 run in the second quarter that allowed the boys to cruise to a 73-43 victory.
In the second round, Brentwood matched up with AAA powerhouse Oak Bay. Despite struggling to score in the early going, Brentwood played very well defensively and though shooting a low percentage, only trailed 23-17 at the half. In the third quarter, the boys came out gunning and took the lead 40-38 late in the quarter before an Oak Bay triple saw us go into the fourth trailing 41-40. Both teams scored well in the fourth and with a few minutes to go a barrage of three-pointers by Oak Bay allowed them to secure a 6 point cushion going into the final minutes. As we intentionally fouled to regain possession, Oak Bay calmly made their free-throws and stretched the margin to a 71-62 final.
In the bronze medal game, we faced a familiar foe in highly touted Lambrick Park. In a tightly contested affair, our ball movement, clutch shooting, and aggressive rebounding helped us secure a well-deserved 77-71 win. Jordan C was named to the tournament all-star team.
The boys head to Shawnigan on Thursday for what is sure to be an exciting league game.  Game tips off at 4:30pm.
