Senior Boys Basketball: tough opposition against AAA schools.

Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - By: Marius Felix

Brentwood's senior boys basketball team played their best two games of the year last weekend, beating W.J. Mouat High School 78-72 on Friday, and then losing a highly competitive game to #5 ranked 'AAA' Kelowna High School, 68-66. Both games tested the Brentwood players, who were forced to shake off the effects of a three-week Christmas layoff. The Mouat squad pushed the pace of the game from start to finish, but Brentwood was able to rely on their defence throughout the game to create several key turnovers and secure the win. Strong efforts by Sam Silbergeld, Ben Harris, Dave Mackay and Jason Kim highlighted a good team performance On Saturday, Brentwood faced a highly talented Kelowna squad. Led by possibly the best guard in the province, Kelowna play a high paced transition game on offence and pressure their opponents at the defensive end of the floor. The match was a back-and-forth affair, led by Brentwood for the majority of the game. An outstanding effort from Dave Mackay (who netted 28 points and 11 rebounds) and Ray Kim saw Brentwood almost nail down a major upset. However, Kelowna's outstanding guard hit a 3-point jumper with 4 seconds remaining, and secured a great win for the Owls. Brentwood play at home to Gulf Islands Senior Secondary School on Tuesday night in a key match up to determine first place in the mid-island 'AA' league. Tip off is at 6:30 pm and all are welcome.
