Senior Boys Basketball: gritty performance earns a great win

The Senior Boys put together forty minutes of tough-minded and defensively stingy basketball to defeat #3-ranked Esquimalt High School on Friday. The win puts Brentwood into the final of the South Island Tournament at 3 p.m. Saturday. Brentwood meets Lambrick Park High School in this game, which should provide a riveting contest. Brentwood defeated Lambrick earlier in the season on a Dave Mackay overtime buzzer beater in January. Although the team played exceptionally good defence throughout the game against Esquimalt, there were some missed opportunities at the offensive end of the floor. Nonetheless, Dave Mackay, Sam Silbergeld, Ray Kim, and Johannes Hoffmeyer all enjoyed great games. Ben Harris was also prominent during the first half, hauling down several key rebounds and putting a stranglehold on Esquimalt's talented post player.
The win yesterday guarantees a place in the Island Championship Tournament, hosted by Brentwood next week.
