Senior Boys Basketball: consistency will be the key...

Although a two-week layoff due to exams could be seen, in some quarters, to be an excuse for a loss to Shawnigan Lake School during the Countdown to the Playoffs Tournament last Friday, the players would not hear of it. Team Captain Sam Silbergeld expressed it best after the loss, simply stating that his team was outworked by a fired-up opponent. More importantly, the team redeemed themselves against Woodlands the next day, recognising the importance of consistent effort from start to finish. Woodlands had suffered a close decision to eventual tournament champions Lambrick Park on Friday, and they too saw their match against Brentwood as an opportunity to finish the tournament on a high note. Unfortunately for them, Brentwood started the game in determined fashion, pressuring their counterparts into a series of turnovers that led to a convincing half-time lead. Brentwood maintained a relentless work ethic throughout the second half, highlighted by 6 for 6 shooting by Steve Yang (5 for 5 from three-point territory!). The final score was 104-46. Dave Mackay was named a tournament All-star. The Brentwood team will participate in a three-day camp over mid-term in preparation for the South Island Tournament next week.
