The Senior Boys basketball team returned to action on Thursday, meeting 'AAA' W.J. Mouat High School from Vancouver in their opening round game of the Mount Douglas Invitational. The Mouat team, winners of two pre-Christmas tournaments and highly rated in their league on the mainland, presented Brentwood with significant challenges. Blessed with several highly athletic players the opposition were a handful, but a stingy Brentwood team defence proved to be the difference and our boys earned a well-deserved victory by a score of 78-72. Brentwood relied on strong off-the-bench efforts from Ian Parry and Garrett Clyne, whose play complemented gritty performances by Ben Harris (who had 12 points and 10 rebounds), Seb Kolmetz, and Jason Kim. Sam Silbergeld and Ray Kim provided steady and reliable leadership and Dave Mackay led all scorers with 17 points. Andre Coquillard also competed effectively, especially during the last few minutes of the game, grabbing several key rebounds. Brentwood meets 'AAA' and #7-ranked Kelowna High School at the Mount Douglas gym at 6:45 tonight (Friday) in their second round match.
