Over the weekend, the Senior Boys hosted their annual 16-team "Countdown to Playoffs" invitational tournament.  In the opener, the boys were challenged by an enormous Shawnigan Lake team that featured three players over 6'8" in their starting unit.  It was a back-and-forth affair, but Brentwood's bench proved to be the deciding factor as Mat Haines, Matt Lee and Gene Lai knocked down big shots and brought great energy on the defensive end.  Brentwood ended up winning 49-41 and advanced to play Port Alberni in the second round.  In this game, Brentwood jumped out to an early lead and Andre Coquillard dominated on the glass and scored a game high 24 points.  In the semi-finals, Brentwood faced a very physical team from Cedar but matched their intensity and executed well at both ends.  Sebastian Kohlmetz led the way with 15 points while Jason Kim and Garrett Clyne chipped in with 14pts and 12pts respectively.  In the tournament final, Brentwood faced a very talented team from AAA Stelly's High School featuring provincial team point guard (and eventual tourney M.V.P) Jordan Elvedahl.  Once again, Brentwood jumped out to a quick lead and, despite a challenge in the third quarter, managed to secure a 58-45 victory.  Ian Parry contributed a game high 18pts and Sebastian Kohlmetz scored 17 and was fantastic on the defensive end.  Brentwood clearly benefitted from their well-rounded attack throughout the weekend as six different players scored in double figures at one point or another.  Next up for the boys is a game at Gulf Islands followed by the South Island Playoffs on Feb 11.  Congrats to the team on a great performance over the weekend!
