Senior Boys Basketball: Brentwood 74, Shawnigan 35

Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - By: Marius Felix

Relying on a defensive scheme that strangled Shawnigan's high-powered offence and forced them into a rash of errors, the team start their Christmas holidays today after a win over their arch rivals from up the road on Tuesday evening. After a tight game for the first five minutes, Brentwood quickly settled down and applied relentless pressure on a Shawnigan team fresh from a well-deserved victory over perennial powehouse and #9-ranked Lambrick Park High School from Victoria. Taking advantage of their 6' 9" post player, Shawnigan enjoyed the early momentum and jumped to an 8-4 advantage. From that point on, however, Brentwood's team defence dominated the game, holding Shawnigan to a meager 18 points with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Brentwood led 56-20 at the start of the fourth quarter, and their lead allowed the bench players to experience some valuable game time. The final outcome was a 74-35 win. The team will enjoy a well-deserved break, returning to Brentwood for a mini-camp with their coaches on January 5th in preparation for the remainder of the season.
