Senior Boys Basketball: Brentwood 58, Shawnigan 45

Wednesday, December 03, 2008 - By: blake gage

In their first league game of the year, the senior boys team travelled to Shawnigan Lake School where they were greeted by a loud and intimidating crowd. The noise level, in fact, was deafening as most of the Shawnigan student body came out to support their team.  The Brentwood team showed remarkable composure, racing off to a great start and an 8-point lead that was sparked by three consecutive Ian Parry baskets.  The team was able to maintain a tremendous defensive effort throughout the contest and built a 28-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, after which the outcome was never really in question.  Sebastian Kohlmetz and Andre Coquillard anchored the defence as they controlled the backboards and neutralised the opposition's huge front line.  Ian Parry, Garrett Clyne, and Matt Lee led the way with a balanced scoring effort tallying 16, 12 and 11 points respectively.  Gene Lai also provided a great lift off the bench with his strong defensive effort.
