It all started in Spring League, where we got crushed by Barsby. Yes, that gave us some doubts, but the boys quickly got rid of those after a strong start to the year, beating perennial powerhouse St George’s, ranked #4 in the province at 4A, to secure the coveted No Regrets Tournament.

The team then went California Dreamin over Winter Break, a trip filled with lots of bonding, and a little hoops as well. The highlight of the trip actually wasn't basketball, but the invention of back seat football, where players had to elude big hits to their QB. Avik Bakshi stated that his “smaller QB actually gave me an advantage, as it is more elusive and a smaller target for the pursuers”.

After this unforgettable trip, the home stretch of the season. After being shorthanded in their opening round loss of the Abby Snowball, reinforcements came the next day. The boys played terrifically and, with the win secured by the 3rd quarter, were able to have a nice dance party to Soulja Boy during the quarter break.

Then came #5 ranked 4A Kelowna. Behind a finishing masterclass by Nick Cholmsky and a 35 point triple double from yours truly, the boys prevailed. Before too long, it was playoff time. After beating GNS in the Island semifinal, we had secured a berth to Provincials, and a spot in the final. Milan Pasquale clearly still had a bad taste in his mouth from last year’s final, and carried the boys to victory.

Then, what we had been preparing for all season: Provincials. After playing some of our best basketball of the year in the first three games, we saw ourselves in the Arena Bowl come Saturday, playing for the championship.

Let’s just say, I don’t want to talk about that game.

The season was a great one, and I can’t say that I’ve ever been with a team as tightly knit as this one. I will miss going to war with every single one of these guys, coaching staff included. I would rather come 2nd with them, than 1st with anyone else.
