Secret Santas in Allard

19 December 2018

To get into the festive spirit right before we all go off for Winter Break, Allard House does Secret Santas, meaning that each girl in the house buys three little gifts, and then one big gift, to give to another girl in the house. Over the span of three days you can expect little chocolates, fuzzy socks or notes to appear on your desk, signed by your Secret Santa. Then, on the last day of school, after we have our annual end-of-term dinner, you can find your Secret Santa’s final, big gift for you hiding under the Christmas tree. This tradition has been a part of Allard House for many years, and it helps create a sense of giving rather than just getting; not only do you feel good about receiving warm, fuzzy gifts, but you also feel good buying gifts for other people, and putting a smile on their face. Sumin K, says that she enjoys Secret Santas because she gets “to know new things about people” in the house that she may not have known about them before.  On the last night, each girl guesses who their Secret Santa is, and the mystery is revealed. The buzz of winter magic surrounds the house as all of the girls enjoy their gifts, drinking hot cocoa, and laughing at the skits that each grade performs. It’s almost as if Santa Claus is spreading his magic throughout the house… Ameera E, Allard ‘19
