Second Term Volleyball
Similar to the other students this year, the girls in Second Term Volleyball (47 in total) were asking themselves - how is this going to work? With Covid, will we even be able to do anything? Will we have fun?
Yes, we certainly did.
Second term is about building up skills and technique, not teams, tournaments and matches. We work together in order for every single one of us to improve. Of course, it was different than in past years - there is no doubt about that - but it was also what made it unique and memorable.
The girls who had been in the Advanced group in the fall were given the opportunity to still be able to do scrimmages, drills and loads of serves. Even though second term volleyball is usually when people from all over the valley come to join us, we created our own team, and continually practised and practised until we got it right. It almost felt normal.
On the development teams, we had an equally fruitful experience. The volleyball program is supportive of all skill levels, so no student needs to worry about their own ability. This term, we worked on developing our techniques, practised system rotations, and ran many practice matches. Despite our hard work, we still enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot along the way.
Of course, none of this would even be possible without leadership from the captains and our coaches, so we just wanted to thank Ms Fougner, Mrs Griffiths, Ms Fougner Jr. (Reece), Ms Bell-Etkin and, of course, the Volleyball Captains Chloe C and Abby S. This term - and even last term - would not have been possible without them.
Let’s hope that next year will be just as great as this one, if not better.
