Season of Successes for Senior Girls’ Basketball

Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - By: marlese.plater

The Senior Girls’ Basketball team had a great season. Although they did not advance past the Island Championships, they ended the season with an exciting win over Cedar at the Islands, captured the bronze medal at the North Island Play-offs, and finished second in league play with 8 wins and 1 loss.

At the North Islands, they lost their first game against Cedar by 8 points, but put that behind them and went on to win their remaining three games against Mark Isfeld, Gulf Islands and Kwalikum. In the final game, the team came out with a 1 point victory after a 9 point comeback in the final quarter. Maddy A and Kelly R both drained threes in the final minutes.

At the Islands, the team had a tough first game against Lambrick Park. Following the loss, the team re-focussed and played a stellar game vs. Cedar allowing them to advance in the tournament. Excellent team effort on defense and on rebounding clinched the win. Player of the game honors in the Island Tournament went to Kelly R, Madlen A and Spencer M.

The girls should be proud of their performance this season!
