Scary Submission Season

10 November 2021

For the Class of ‘22, the time that for so long only ever seemed theoretical is now here: university application deadlines. Later this fall and winter, standard Canadian and international applications will have to be completed and submitted.

However, students applying to the United Kingdom or for early decision in the United States have already had to submit their applications and transcripts, many even starting the process this past summer. Mr Rodrigues, the Head of the University Counselling team, says that the “fall is [their] primetime and [they] are working madly to get everything done with the Grade 12s. If [they’re] not reading applications, [they’re] assembling transcripts or writing references”.

As a college preparatory school, a big part of Brentwood is helping students decide on, and apply for, specific post-secondary programs. Although the school is really preparing students for university from the day they step on campus, there is more specific catering towards Grade 11 and 12 students to ensure that everything is in order. Whether it is reviewing course selections to meet a program’s requirements, or pointing students in the right direction for their application’s personal essay, the University Counselling team here at Brentwood is like your shadow: with you every step of the way.

Mr Rodrigues, Mrs Beausoleil, and Mrs Coull make up Brentwood’s team of University Counsellors and they can always be found working away in the Ross Academic Building. One-on-one appointments are always available to be scheduled and are particularly recommended for the Grade 12s preparing for applications. Mr Rodrigues explains that “There are still those who tease with deadlines, but for the most part, students have learned to work with the system, not against it”.

Students are typically required to send updated marks during the year, but having the initial application submitted can still be a huge relief. Yang L, Privett ‘22 is applying for Canadian as well as international programs to study business, and claims that “Hearing back from universities and making final decisions in the spring will be an equally stressful period, but right now all I can focus on is submitting applications”. So far the students have been working like crazy to get everything completed. Best of luck to them all!
