Salivating Over Saudi Cuisine

3 October 2016

To discover that certain Brentonians had gone their whole lives without having tasted one of Saudi’s greatest delights was heart breaking, so on Friday, September 23, a group of Saudi kids took time out of their evening to ensure that every single Brentwood student could exit the cafeteria saying that they had tasted a shawarma. Several helpful individuals from Saudi Aramco, such as Chidinma A, Alex ’17, and Olamide O, Privett ’18 were also able to convince our fellow Brentonians that the falafels were the way to go. Each year, to celebrate the diversity that Saudi Arabia has brought to Brentwood, a Saudi Dinner is held, exposing Brentwood to its cultural cuisine. Coming from four different Aramco compounds (Dhahran, Ras Tanura, Abqaiq, and Udhailiyah), the Saudi kids, now nearing a population of forty, play a huge role in contributing to Brentwood’s diversity scale. The dinner blessed Brentonians with falafels, hummus, shawarma (of course) some delightful entertainment from Michael G, Privett’ 17, and much more. To serve the community was a pleasure, and after tasting the food that was offered, Noah W, Privett ’18, happily agreed that the Saudi Dinner is “one of the best culture dinners that Brentwood has.” With smiling faces and filled stomachs, the kids of Saudi can definitely agree that the night was successful, and Brentwood’s 2016 Saudi Dinner will definitely leave students craving another shawarma.
