Running for the Hill of It
My heart is beating, feet hitting the ground, not really knowing what to do with my arms. Mrs. Reynolds is telling me that I can’t take another break.
That’s my cross-country running experience.
Last week the cross-country team took a trip to Thetis Lake. The best part about my third term, besides the weather, is running for enjoyment and not competition.
Every Thursday the Cross Country team hops on a bus for about 45 minutes to reach a new destination each week, a pleasant change from our usual run around local trails. Sun beating down, clear sky, and trees around the path giving the perfect amount of shade made last Thursday a beautiful day. We arrived and started off on a 7 kilometer run that was on a trail right around the lake. Climbing up a large incline right from the start tested our true fitness. This was followed by a gorgeous run through the Douglas fir forest. What a way to spend an afternoon.
Sweaty kids used their last bits of energy after the run to get into the lake as fast as possible for a fun way to cool off. It was the perfect temperature after a lovely run. The hungry runners then ate up all the fruit, granola bars, and juice back on the bus. It was a beautiful day for a trip to Thetis Lake.
For the hill of it.
