Rugby, Reds and Blacks

6 November 2012
Brentwood’s Grade 9 Rugby team squared off against Saint George's on Saturday. Our team was smaller than usual; we were missing a few players. With only 1 or 2 subs, nearly every person on the team played the entire game, however we still held our ground and nobody complained. Rain had started just before the game did, and it continued throughout, so we knew it was going to be a muddy match.
Saint Georges is a formidable opponent and a brand new team for us to face. The score ended up being tilted in their favor, but from every game we play, we learn something new. For me, this was our first game that truly felt like rugby. It felt like we were getting the hang of it. We had powered scrums and brilliant kickoffs and lineouts; they all added to the effect of a true rugby game.
In the end were had mud splattered all over our faces and in our hair; some had cuts and many had bruises, but none of us were fazed. It’s those aspects of the game that make it what it is. Despite our loss to Saint Georges, it was one of the most fun rugby games I've had yet.
