Rugby: Mice Win vs. SMUS

Monday, October 22, 2007 - By: Steven Cowie

The Grade 8's bounced back from a tough loss (25-0) at St. George's with a solid 24-12 win at home against St. Michaels. The team started slowly, conceding an early try, and then dominated the rest of the first half, going up 24-7 with superb tries in the backs from Luis Molina (2), Pablo Cristobal (1) and Kiu Ho-Lee (1). Pablo chipped in with two conversions. The second half saw SMUS come back with great enthusiasm and Brentwood had to play defence as a result of too many handling errors and too many penalties for undisciplined play. St. Michaels scored one try, but Brentwood was able to shut the door, thanks to great tackling from Jake Kantorowitz, Connor Martin, Pablo Cristobal and many others. Though the team did not produce the same kind of heroic effort against overwhelming odds that was apparent against St. George's, the boys can be proud of their win against another school with far more boys to choose from, many with considerable rugby experience. The team are clearly making great progress and enjoying their introduction to this demanding sport.
