Rugby girls score first league win

Last Tuesday, the girls rugby team opened their 2008 season with a game against a determined, physical side in Ladysmith. From the start the forwards rucked with enthusiasm led by Alison and Natasha while Nellie kicked very well using the slope to advantage. Playing down the hill we scored three times in the first half. Alison crashed over from close in after some strong running up the middle by Denise and Sarah. Nellie broke down the blind-side from a ruck with a creative pass from Rona. Finally Lenutsa dived over following a kick, chased and handled well by Geneva. Early in the second half, some quick handling sent Meredyth over on the wing. Ladysmith responded with some powerful running but our defence showed lots of grit when it mattered. Everyone played and Denise had her best game so far. The final score of 20-5 was satisfying and bodes well for next term.
