On Saturday, the rowing club sent 35 athletes down to Victoria to compete in the Head of the Gorge Regatta. Although this regatta caters mainly for university students, there was a high school event for eights and we entered three doubles into the open doubles event. In the morning flight, our boys JV eight placed second to Vancouver College's Varsity eight and ahead of St. George's Varsity eight. The boys Jr. B Heavy eight came first in the Jr. B event, finishing ahead of Vancouver College, our Jr. B boys lightweight eight (who were third), and the St. George's Jr. B crew.  Erin Young and Deirdre Huestis finished fourth in the open doubles competition, beating out a number of university crews. Adelaide Backer and Stephanie Ridenour finished sixth in the same event. Both crews finished one and two out of the junior crews entered in the event. Erin and Deidre are Jr. B age athletes competing against much older, more experienced crews. In the afternoon flight, Eric Jackson and Connor McGuigan raced in the open doubles event. They finished third in a blistering 16:19, beating a number of university crews in the process. This was a great opportunity to give the crews their first taste of competition in these combinations. The next event for the school will be the Island Championships on 22nd November in Victoria.
