As we approach the end of term two sports, the Junior and Senior Hockey teams face the biggest challenge of the year, the Ross Cup. With six teams from the Island and Vancouver facing each other in this tournament, we knew we had a tough competition ahead of us. As our coaches mentioned to us before our first game, we had a lot to prove “to our rival Shawnigan after our loss in Showcase.”

Our first Senior game on Thursday was against Shawnigan with whom we have had quite a rivalry throughout the year. Unfortunately, we fell short with a 6-1 loss. It was a tough game where we didn’t stick to our game plan. Later that day, the Senior team played our second game against Kitsolano where, again, we did not play to our standards and lost 5-1.

Writing this article after two consecutive losses in my final Ross Cup is tough. However, for me, there is much to be learned from these games as not everything in life goes the way you expect. Sometimes you think that you have given your all like I thought I did in these past two games, however, the results clearly say otherwise. In a game of hockey where there is always one winner and one loser, there is no excuse. I wholeheartedly believe that the team who wants to win more will always win. This shows that we still have a lot to work on in every aspect of the game.

I am extremely excited for the three upcoming games against Kelsey, Cowichan, and Prince of Wales where we still get the chance to prove to ourselves that we are better than what we have shown in the previous games. I am grateful for this experience of being able to do what I love with the best group of people I could have ever asked for.

These games will be live streamed on the Brentwood site, so cheer the boys and girls on for the rest of Ross Cup!
