Ross Cup 2017

The Road to the 18th has ended. Last weekend Brentwood hosted its 18th Annual Ross Cup Hockey Tournament. Several schools from Vancouver Island and Vancouver competed The tournament was held at Kerry Park Recreation Centre.  Brentwood entered 3 teams into the tournament. The Junior Development team Captained by Alex B, Privett ’17 went 0-3 while the Junior Varsity team Captained by Isaac S, Rogers ‘19 defeated the Junior Development team but would lose to St George’s powerful teams. They finished 1-2.  The Brentwood senior team had a strong tournament. They were Captained by Mason S, Privett ‘18. Coached by Mr Flynn, the team went on to 2 wins and 2 losses. This gave them a place in the semi-finals where they lost a heartbreaker 3-2 to St Georges who went on to win the Ross Cup. The seniors played their hearts out and it showed on the ice.   On the second day, the skills competition was held. Brentwood had at least 1 member from all 3 Brentwood teams in each event. The events were Fastest Skater, Speed Shootout, Hardest Shot and Shootout. Brentwood won 4 out of 5 events.  Brentwood’s winners were Kurtis H, Privett ‘19: Speed shootout  Austin O, Ellis ‘19: Hardest Shot  Cooper H, Ellis ‘19: Shootout  Thomas B, Ellis ‘18: Best Junior Goalie  St George’s were both Junior and Senior champions defeating Chatelech Secondary in the senior final. Congratulations to both of the winning teams.   The tournament went smoothly and it couldn’t have happened without Mr Flynn. This might be the end of the Brentwood Hockey season but next year is fast approaching and the road to the Ross Cup begins again in September.  Thomas B, Ellis ‘18
