One of our rowing coaches, Robyn Willow, has been selected as a coach for the 2010 BC Summer Games Program. She will be acting as the Head Coach for Zone 6 (Vancouver Island/Central Coast). Rowing teams at the BC Summer Games are composed primarily of athletes under the age of 16. This will be a developmental regatta to identify the up-and-comers on the Island. As Monster Erg showed us last week, the Junior B's on the Island (under 16) are actually going just as fast as the Junior A rowers in grades 11 and 12! Very promising!
The games will be held this July in Ft. Langley. Robyn will be coaching at the Provincial training camp during Spring Break and also hosting tryouts for the team in the late spring. At the Games there are 8 teams that participate. BC is divided into 8 zones and members within a certain zone represent their region. Vancouver Island only has one zone allocated - Zone 6 - so this will be a competitive team! As one of the coaches for the Brentwood's junior girls, Robyn's goal is to help Brentwood girls forge relationships with Rowing BC and participate in provincial and national regattas outside of Brentwood.
