Robotics Racing

11 October 2012
Teagan W
On Friday afternoon during the last class before break, instead of doing something conventional like listening to a teacher drone on and on while watching the clock tick slower and slower, we raced robots.   That’s right, we raced robots. Our Grade 10 elective Robotics class, led by Mr. Wardrop, trooped down to the gym, robots in tow.  One driver from each of the five groups, each with our own original name, lined up along the line.   On the mark, we all gunned it.   Three robots made it to the finish line consistently. My robot, alas, went about twenty centimetres and another group’s went about a metre.  While my robot lurched forward, like a Grade 9 towards a house job, the rest of the group’s machines flew along the floor leaving us all in the dust.  It was a very interesting experience to see how the designs that we have been perfecting for a week and a half performed in a competition. For my group anyway, it’s back to the drawing board. Teagan W, Determined Robotics Engineer
