Robb Represents Rugby Canada

15 June 2013
Dani Robb, Mackenzie, '11
The following is a blog written by Brentwood Alumna Dani Robb, Mackenzie, 11, who was recently named to Canada’s Under 20 National Women’s Rugby Team. At Brentwood, Dani was a standout athlete in field hockey, ice hockey, and rugby. We all wish Dani the best representing our nation. “The Nations Cup Tournament will be held in Long Eaton, Nottingham, United Kingdom from July 8th until July 22. On July 11 we take on the U.S. in our first game. On the 14th we play England and the last game before the finals will be against South Africa on July 17th. As a team, we will not be able to all train together until June 30th where we are meeting for a week in Toronto before we head to England. Position wise, I am not sure where they want me to play. At the final tryout in Toronto last weekend they had me playing fullback and scrumhalf although my biggest strength is playing on the wing.  My university career at  St. Francis Xavier University thus far has been fantastic. In my rookie year I was one of 2 rookies who were on the starting lineup. Playing at that level I had to immediately and drastically step up my game. We ended up going to the National Championships that year and lost to Guelph in the final. This year, I came into training camp flying. I had improved and had much more confidence than my first year. At the end of training camp, however, I took a terrible tumble leaving me injured for the majority of the year.  I was able to start jogging 3 weeks before Nationals and able to start practicing 1 week prior. Although missing most of the playing year, I was still able to fight my way on to the dressing 25 squad. Unable to play full games at this point, I did not see much playing time at Nationals. My team, however, did not suffer without me as we won nationals, beating Guelph in the finals.  Now I am, for the most part, healed and have been training HARD. I don't ever want my size to be a factor in making a team or playing in general. Being small is not an excuse to me. Although I stand 5 inches smaller than most and 30 pounds lighter, I can easily say that I am equally strong, if not stronger than any other player. I have worked harder for this than anything ever before and I am beyond ready and overly excited to represent my country in England next month.”  Dani Robb, Mackenzie, 11
