Whether it be through academics, athletics, or arts, students will be able to find their passion in Brentwood. Our school’s motto “Grit and Joy” is in the heart of students who strive to be the best in whatever they pursue.  This could be seen recently in two athletes, Matthew MP, Rogers ‘19 and Jacob B Ellis ‘19. Both boys entered Brentwood in their Grade 9 year, and have committed themselves to the sport of rugby. Their work ethic is unparalleled as they not only practice rugby three times a week but they also train by hitting the gym every day of the week.  In the summer of 2017, both boys played in the Canadian National Rugby Championship. Mr. Curran, Head Coach of Canada, has since invited them to a Team Canada development training camp. This accomplishment is no easy task as only 14 athletes were selected from all of British Columbia.  Since then, Matty has shown tremendous physical and technical ability and was selected to play in the Las Vegas Sevens against the USA National Rugby team. Jacob believes that the rugby camp “developed me as a player and as person.” Matt believes “playing this high level of rugby competing against other nations will spark my competitive mentality into a higher state of mind.” In the near future, these two individuals will make a major impact in Canadian Rugby and will become an inspiration to young Brentonians.  Luis M, Privett ‘18
