Recognition of Harold Backer's Contributions to the Rowing Club

The Brentwood College Rowing Club would like to acknowledge Harold Backer, Class of 1980 and Junior Men's Coach, as the 2009 Athlete Community Excellence Coach of the Year Award winner. Nominated by his former rowing athletes over the last two years, including Toby Green, Jason McCarthy, Ben Coull, Jack Kornfeld and Dan Robinson, Mr.Backer will be receiving his award at an awards ceremony at the Vancouver Island University on Monday night. This award demonstrates the dedication and commitment Mr.Backer has shown over the last few years, earning five national championships with the junior boys programme. Mr.Backer already has an impressive rowing resume as a student at Brentwood, at Princeton University during his four years there, and as a three-time Olympian (1984, 1988 and 1992). One of his athletes has gone on to win an Olympic medal - Tom Herschmiller - Silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Congratulations on this new achievement.
