As the impish Grade 8s go about their year in a spacious ocean-view classroom in the Bunch Centre, along with what some might call a rigorous homework load and faced with the looming specter of beginning of high school in September, they are assigned a task as a class to explore the life of theatre. Although some may like participating and some may not, the Grade 8 Musical - Shrek Jr - was performed yesterday afternoon with enthusiasm and effort.

Ms Ramundi and her crew chose just the right genre of musical for this energetic class of Grade 8s. Because Shrek has such a comedic and high energy tone to it, this class was already excited to perform it for us. Shrek fits comfortably in the atmosphere of this class and although Ms Ramundi did have some stress getting them together to perform it, the Grade 8s pulled through.

“They want to, of course, do their best. Although they know as a class they went through some rough patches rehearsing their scenes, giving their best effort is all they can do when they’re on stage” optimistically reflected Mr Stevens. Ms Ramundi has had her hands full the last couple of weeks preparing and rehearsing for a trio of performances and her class is making a push to finish up the final touches on this comedic gem.

“That was so good! Every single person could sing well. It made me so happy” observed Youto I, Whittall ‘25 recently returned from his Provincial Soccer Championship. Youto knows a thing or two about excellent performances. "Shrek was such a fun experience, both to manage behind the scenes and to watch! The performers did an amazing job bringing the characters to life and making the show exciting and funny. I loved it!" added Lindsay G, Allard '22, the production's stage manager.

Shrek Jr will be playing in the Killy Theatre at 2:15 pm on Friday for students in Grades 10, 11 &12 and later in the evening for an external audience. I recommend coming down to see the production that our Grade 8s have put together - just ask to sign out from your Block 1 arts instructor.
