Reaping The Whirlwind

4 May 2015
Edna Widenmaier
Third term is a whirlwind of festivals, showcases and performances for the Performing Arts, and so far the ensembles have been receiving excellent adjudications at the Greater Victoria Music Festival. This week the choirs and jazz band participate in the Whistler Cantando Festival and the West Coast Jazz Festival - qualifiers for next year’s Nationals. Also, we have just struck the set for the Senior Acting Company’s wonderfully comedic rendition of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, on the Killy Theatre in the T. Gil Bunch Centre and the dancers in our vibrant programmes are eagerly rehearsing for the Friday, May 8th Evening of Dance open to parents and public. The Evening of Dance, is entitled "Youth". When describing the 50 students involved in this production one should mention not only their youthfulness, but also their vitality, energy, strength, enthusiasm and artistry. The genres of dance covered include classical ballet, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, hip-hop, a little tap and even improvisational work. Variety will be evident with both student and teacher directed choreography, ranging from large groups of 20 to solo works. Be sure to come and spend the evening with us: May 8th, 2015
