Oh, what a season it has been so far for the boys. From muddy games on Gillespie Field, all the way up to sodden Courtney, the lads have never given up. Over the past weekend the Senior Boys Soccer travelled up-Island to compete in Islands for a spot in provincials.

After travelling up on Sunday evening, the team started their Monday morning off against St Michaels. The boys went down 1-0 as the conditions worsened. Although the boys faced hail and extremely strong winds, they were able to persevere and came away with a 6-1 win with two goals from Avik B, Privett ‘23 and Fabian H, Whittall ‘22 and one goal from Sebastian M, Privett ‘22 and Joffre D, Whittall ‘23.  Davis P, Whittall 23’ says, “That was one of the toughest games I have ever played. I lost complete feeling in my toes and fingers.”

After an hour-long bus ride back to the hotel, the boys only had twenty minutes to warm themselves back up before heading to their next game. With better conditions, it felt like paradise and the boys were able to come away with a comfortable 4-1 win against Mark Isfeld. And with that, the first day of games was complete.

The second day started with the hardest opponent yet: Lambrick Park. After a tough fought match the boys suffered a last minute penalty resulting in a 1-0 loss. Consequently, the last game needed to be won to qualify for provincials.

In the game for third place the boys put on a show. Determined to keep their season going, the boys put their heads down to come away with a 3-0 win. A goal from Youto I, Whittall ‘24 and Obase A, Ellis ‘22 as well as a wonder tally from Owen S, Whittall ‘22 led the boys to victory and provincials next weekend in Burnaby.

The boys are excited to go: “Can't wait to make a statement to all the interior teams that we aren’t here to mess around” stated Owen S, Whittall ‘22. With only a couple days of practice to go, the team is looking forward to a memorable - and hopefully victorious - time in Burnaby.
