Provincial Gold for Girls Rugby!

3 June 2015

The month of May has once again been an extraordinarily busy time for our Brentwood athletes and their efforts have resulted in some outstanding performances. Our Senior Tennis team hosted the Provincial Championship and Marci McLean organized a terrific event. The team also played some of its best tennis of the year and defeated Shawnigan Lake School on the last day of play to come away with provincial bronze. The Junior Tennis team also competed in the first ever junior provincial championship where the boys came away with silver and the girls captured bronze. It was another outstanding year for our tennis program. In golf action, the team participated in the Island Championship where it finished fourth and narrowly missed a berth to the provincials. Our Girls Soccer program had a strong finish to their season. The Senior Girls hosted the North Island Tournament where they managed to earn a berth to the Islands.  Meanwhile, our Junior Girls came third in league play but saved their best soccer for last as the shocked their competition and claimed gold in the ISA Tournament thanks to a thrilling 1-0 win over SMUS in the final. The Senior Boys Rugby team advanced to the provincials and looked strong in the first round with an impressive win over DW Poppy. The team advanced to the quarterfinals but not without cost as they lost to #1 seed Rockridge.  The team responded well, however, and finished their season with an impressive win over Hugh McRoberts to finish seventh in the province. Our Girls Rugby Team capped off a truly remarkable season. They went undefeated from start to finish including a series of dominant performances at the provincial championships where they defeated Heritage Woods 57-3 in the opener, knocked of Shawnigan 33-10 in the semifinal and then polished off a very strong team from Abbotsford 27-10 in the final. Many of these same girls also won provincial gold earlier in the month at the BC High School 7s championship. This was clearly a special group of girls. Their commitment to each other and hard work all season clearly paid off. A big thank you to coaches Felix, Cowie and Grisdale who have worked tirelessly on the program’s behalf for many years now. This week, 45 of our finest rowers departed for St. Catharines and the CSSRA Championships and we wish them every success. Congrats to all our student-athletes on a remarkable series of accomplishments this month.
