John Boehme, a member of our arts faculty, has a flourishing artistic career and travels all over the world for exhibits and festivals. During 2009, he has been to France, China, Toronto and Spain and has pending events in Ireland, Poland, and Sweden. Recently he returned from Madrid, Spain where he participated in ACCION 09, a performance art festival. For his piece, he explored the idea of hygienic introductions and the global fear of pandemics. On November 28th, he is headed to Toronto where he will do a live performance exploring contemporary escapist modalities (i.e. how people are escaping from the declining economy psychologically, emotionally, and literally). Raised on the Windansea Beach of La Jolla, California, John was educated at two boarding schools and graduated from The Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California. John G. Boehme’s early art practice included painting, sculpture, performance video and digital technology, installation and photography. Boehme describes his recent work as "trans-disciplinary", often employing performance, video, audio and objects in a number of pieces simultaneously. He is not constrained to any particular creative mode and therefore utilizes integrated approaches to realize the work. John is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Victoria and continuing faculty at Camosun and Brentwood Colleges. If you would like more information about John's work or the sculpture program here at the school, you can reach him at john.boehme@brentwood.bc.ca.
