Prodigious Puffs Performance

As one of the oldest programs in all of Brentwood Arts, Senior Play’s theatrical bunch (in the Bunch) really outdid themselves with this year’s performance. With the goal of challenging individuals to find what they are capable of and express themselves creatively, Senior Play is one of the most demanding arts - but also one of the most rewarding.

Bringing his knowledge and expertise from Richard Foreman's theater at St. Mark's Church in New York as an actor and filmmaker/director, Mr Interlandi is now in his fourth year of directing the Senior Play. Mr Interlandi has done a wonderful job with the program and has expressed, “I take this job fully to heart”.

Mr Interlandi wanted to extend a special thanks to some of the many contributors, “First, my thanks goes to my partner in this production, Kim Plough. Her energy, talent, dedication, and work ethic are unmatched. Amica Pasquale for talent in realizing the set. Tom Shadlock and David Crisp for assistance in our set build. Amy Staples for dance choreography. Alan Johnson and John Atkins, who built and created the set for us! Sally Smith for the endless hours dressing the show, and, of course, the entire crew. I also owe a great deal of gratitude to my predecessors for all of their support.”

This year’s show was called Puffs, by the playwright Matt Cox. The 2015 original play is a comedic retelling of the Harry Potter book series - but from the perspective of the Hufflepuffs. As the playwright Matt Cox says, “It is a play for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. Puffs is a comedy for anyone who has ever felt like a secondary character in someone else's story." Its unique characters - along with its layered humor - made for an amusing and entertaining show.

There is a lot of consideration that goes into selecting each year’s play to accommodate the unique cast as well as the audience. Mr Interlandi adds, “This is also an extra special year for me because I have known this group and worked with them since their Grade 9 year, my first year at Brentwood. I have seen them grow and mature into the amazing young people they are today, and it fills my heart.”

One lead of the play, Eamon R, Privett ‘22, talks about the challenges of Senior Play, “It is a really big task to take on. The time that we have put into rehearsals these past couple of weeks is crazy and it can be a lot to manage with everything else going on at Brentwood. The performance is super rewarding in the end though, so it’s worth it.”

Sophia PT, Alex ‘22 had another one of the main roles, and talked about how happy she was with it all coming together on stage: “We have been working on this together as a group since the start of the year, so it feels pretty awesome to see it all come together this well in the end.”

Until next year, let’s all give a round of applause for this year’s Senior Play!
