Pressing The Season

After returning to Brentwood early after a long, well-deserved break, the Brentwood Junior Girls Basketball team kicked off the year with a three-day training camp. Sadly we were missing our boarder teammates so some of Brentwood’s finest junior boys ballers stepped in. Davis P, Whittall ‘23, Kai Y, Privett ‘22 and Ruben R, Privett ‘23 were a huge help to the team!

As many athletes may know, learning plays is not the most exciting part of any sport, but through thick and thin, the team managed to pull through and conquer the court, preparing themselves for the upcoming tourney season. “It was fun to get back on the court, even if we’re only learning plays’’ said Ella S, Allard ‘23.

Last weekend all of the junior girls were part of the Clyde Ogilvie Tournament. The coaches split us up into two equal teams which both had unbelievably good outcomes. “It was great to see our more experienced players help the newer players figure out the whole ‘basketball thing.’” said Coach Napier.
This split squad format meant the two Brentwood teams had to play each other. Believe it or not, Brentwood vs Brentwood finished the game in a 43-43 tie. Saturday morning, both teams were up early to win their first game of the day, which meant at least one of the two teams would be guaranteed a first place finish. We then beat both SLS and Oak Bay, meaning that our teams went undefeated, tied for first in the tournament.

These wins are yet another highlight to add to the Junior Girls 2019-2020 journal. With much excitement, we head to Tier 2 ISAs and a provincial qualifying tournament this weekend. The girls hope to have a strong finish at the PQT to boost our rankings - and maybe even book an early berth at provies!
