Patel Does That … Even When We’re Not Here
William Camden once wrote, “The early bird gets the worm” and after interviewing Mr Bud Patel last week, I am quite sure Mr Camden was referring to our fearless leader, who prefers coffee over worms. This fresh cup of java will fuel our Head Of School, Mr Patel, to crush us in the upcoming Active Living workouts - but more on that later.
Following a restless night’s sleep worrying about whether or not Mrs Patel is actually planning on divorcing him as a result of his questionable decision of neon pink facial hair, Mr Patel heads to the kitchen for his morning brew at precisely 5:30 AM.
After debating whether or not the dog really needs out or if this is all just a ruse to drive him insane, Mr P gathers himself to be seen in public with his arch-nemesis, PJ the labradoodle.
Later in the morning, there are countless meetings with other independent schools where Mr P gets to brag about how Brentwood is the best at online learning - and then it's time for chores. You may not expect a man as high powered as Mr Patel to help around the house, but I will have you know that the man himself articulated humbly that “I’m the cleaner-upper”.
One thing I learned during our conversation was that students are not the only ones who are struggling with this difficult time. Mr P shared that he and his staff have all struggled with Zoom and the world of online learning. He expresses that “This experience has made me more grateful for what Brentwood truly is” and goes on to emphasize that we are a face-to-face, relationship-centered school. I believe any student you ask would say the same.
But hold on, fair reader, Zoom isn’t only about Math and Meta: we are more than that. And this is where Mr Patel gets his opportunity to show his polymath abilities. As a Bud of all trades. Given our tripartite foundation, Brentwood has not gone without its arts and sports. And neither has Mr Patel who has participated in “arts trivia, robotics, and musical theatre” and has enjoyed them all equally.
However, the moment we have all been waiting for is to find out more about Mr Patel’s participation in the Active Living workouts. Mr P, our humble leader, would like me to remind everyone that he is “pretty awesome” and that, believe it or not, he has also been contacted by multiple modeling agencies along with a few track teams and Olympic coaches, who are in search of a man with his fetching, and cut, physique.
Lastly, Mr Patel would like to say a huge thanks to all the students who have kept their mindset of “Grit And Joy” through these tough times. He, along with the teachers, appreciate our energy and engagement despite missing our friends and of course, our Head Of School … who should get to bed soon, 5:30 am comes pretty early!
