One Year to London

8 August 2011
The Brentwood Alumni who were involved in the 2008 Olympics are back for another run at the 2012 Games. Malcolm Howard (Class of 2001) has been in the single for the past two years. A month ago he moved back into the eight where he won the Gold Medal for Canada in 2008. This is a big boost for Canada's chances in getting back to the medal podium in the eight in 2012. Dave Calder, (Class of 1996), will be returning to his fourth Olympic Games. He has reunited with Scott Frandsen (Class of 1998 - third Olympic Games) in the men's pair where they won the silver medal in 2008. They recently won the bronze medal at the World Cup event in Lucerne, Switzerland, behind the teams from New Zealand and Great Britain. They will be looking to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games later this summer at the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, August 28th through September 4th. Calder and Frandsen were also recently featured in the article, The Island's Olympic Contenders, in the Times Colonist. Also, Spencer Crowley, (Class of 2007), stroked the Canadian Under 23 straight four to a fourth place finish at the 2011 U23 World Championships at Amsterdam Bosbaan, Netherlands. He will be moving to Victoria to train at the Canadian National team training centre to see where he stacks up with the rest of the Canadian rowers.
