On The Crest of a Wave

23 June 2019
Over the course of the 2018-2019 school year five Brentwood soccer players enriched their athletic experience by training and competing for the Vancouver Island Wave in the BC Soccer Premier League. Privett House Captain Ben M, incoming Assistant Athletics Head Prefect, Reece FR, Jack NG, Noel P & Jensa NG have been training twice weekly at Victoria’s PISE and playing alternate weekends either in Victoria or on the Lower Mainland. Reece (U17 Girls) and Jack (U16 Boys) are defending league champions.  Representing the school in the fall, the three boys won Jr and Sr Mid-Island Championships and qualified for the provincials. Reece and Jensa qualified for Mid-Islands and Islands, respectively. It’s great that Brentwood students at get to play in BC’s top youth soccer league. The schedule at Brentwood can be very challenging, but these five are living proof that it can work. We also believe that having students playing outside of the school gates strengthens the Brentwood soccer program. We also have many athletes that play club soccer on the island. This appears to have paid off for Jack and Noel as their U16 Boys team won their third consecutive BC title yesterday with both boys playing the full 80 minutes and Jack scoring the game-winning goal. The future looks bright as well with Tommy M and Avik B joining the 2019-2020 Grade 9 Privett class from Thompson Okanagan FC and Wave’s U14 boys’ teams.
