While most students left for midterm break last weekend, the Senior Boys Soccer team stayed behind to play in the North Island Championships. Needing to finish top 5 in the tournament to qualify to Islands the boys had their work cut out for them against some tough unseen Northern teams.  In the first game the boys played a hard-working Gulf Island side, but in spite of that Brentwood defeated the Scorpions 5-1. In the second match of the tournament Brentwood played a familiar Frances Kelsey side. A strong performance from the boys led a 2-0 win. In the final group stage match we played a well-rounded Isfield side. A hard-fought battle lead to a 1-1 draw, guaranteeing us a spot in the final.  In the final, our challenger, a skillful Cahri High team, brought an exciting match. Full time ended 1-1: it was not settled. 15 minutes of extra time was played and with only a minute left Cahri scored on a great shot from distance to win the game. Our strong showing, however, qualified us for the Island Championships and the chance to qualify for Provincials. Griffin FR, Ellis ‘18, Captain
