The month of May has, once again, been an extraordinarily busy and successful time for our Brentwood athletes; their efforts have resulted in some outstanding performances. Our Senior Tennis Team captured yet another Island Championship this month and then made another remarkable run at the provincials where they captured silver for the 4th consecutive year and the Boys doubles duo claimed top honours. Our Senior Girls Soccer team finished off a very strong season by qualifying for the Island championship and narrowly missing a berth to provincials. Our Junior Girls also managed to earn a berth to Islands by winning their Mid-Island league in a thrilling game with Shawnigan Lake School. Our Girls Rugby XV capped off an impressive season with a strong showing at the provincial championships. The girls lost a very tightly contested semifinal affair to eventual champion, Abbotsford, in what turned out to be the game of the tournament and came home with a 4th place finish. The Senior Boys Rugby team went into provincials with a well-deserved #1 seed. After suffering a rash of injuries, they showed remarkable resilience by winning their first two games convincingly before falling 15-12 to Rockridge in the semifinal. Despite the disappointing loss, the team showed tremendous character and rebounded with an outstanding performance in the bronze medal game where they led from start to finish and defeated a gutsy St Michael’s team 29-22. With 7 starters out, the team demonstrated grit and made the school proud of their 3rd place finish. Our rowers also recently returned from the CSSRA Championships in St. Catharines to great success despite challenging weather conditions. The Sr. Boys 8+ and Sr. Boys 4x won Gold, the Sr. Girls 8+ took Silver, and the Jr. Boys 8+ & 4+ and Sr. Girls 4x earned Bronze. This week will bring some other fiercely competitive sporting events including the staff vs. Senior Girls Soccer game, staff vs. Golf, Interhouse Tennis and the always colourful Interhouse Track and Field Meet.
