October Sports Roundup

10 November 2014
Blake Gage
As you may know, things are never dull in the world of Brentwood Athletics. In the first term we place a heavy emphasis on team sport. There is no better way to get to know your peers and the lessons learned from playing on a team last a lifetime. I can’t help but feel our teams have an advantage over most in that the relationships they develop are remarkably close-knit and the athletes truly are playing for each other. I suppose when you live and train together that happens! There have been a number of impressive team accomplishments already this term. The Senior Boys Soccer team won our Mid-Island league last week thanks to their 2-0 win over Shawnigan in the pouring rain. Our Junior Boys Soccer team, despite being the youngest in the league, nearly pulled off an amazing upset over Frances Kelsey and came up just short of advancing to Islands. Our Grade 9 Rugby team has shown tremendous growth all season. For most the team, this has been their first experience in rugby and yet they have held their own against some of the top programs in the province. Our Junior Girls Field Hockey team won a thrilling shootout over Crofton House to win bronze at the ISA Championship and our Senior Field Hockey Girls captured Silver at Islands and have earned a berth to the BC Provincial Championship in Oliver this week. In volleyball, our Junior Girls played some excellent volleyball at the ISA championship where they finished 4th and then won the Mid-Islands. Next stop for them is the Islands. Meanwhile our Senior Volleyball team is coming off an impressive couple of weeks having won Gold at our Brentwood Invitational and then Silver at the ISA championship. These same girls travelled to California over midterm to get ready for their playoff push and we are all set to host the AA Girls Provincial Volleyball championship right here at Brentwood from Nov. 26-Nov. 29. November looks to be another exciting month and we wish all our teams the best. Go Brentwood! Mr. Blake Gage, Director of Athletics
