Namaste! Wellness Week

13 April 2021

As Brentwood students, we are so privileged to be participating in the amazing tripartite program that Brentwood offers, but as great as this is, the “Go-Go-Go” routine can sometimes be stressful.

The amazing BWell Team has recently put together a Wellness Week to slow us down and focus on our mental health and well-being.

The week started off with a Beat and BWell Bonfire; we roasted marshmallows and enjoyed each other’s company. It was so nice to simply sit and eat our roasted marshmallows and enjoy the heat of the fire by the ocean.

Later in the evening, the BWell reps handed out gratitude cards in the house. This was a great opportunity to express our gratitude for our housemates and peers.

Last Tuesday we also showed our remembrance for the tragic Humboldt Broncos crash victims and raised awareness for organ donations by wearing a hockey jersey or a green shirt. It was great to see schools come together and show their support.

We had a Wellness Wednesday the next day, and it was truly needed. We started the day with a sleep-in, followed by an hour of outside time to get our blood flowing and catch up on some Vitamin D.

The next day, we got the opportunity to bring out our artsy sides and did some chalk art at the McNeill’s Center. On Friday evening, students got to bring out their inner Namaste and did yoga or meditation.

We finished off the week by dressing up for Beach Day to get a break from our #1 uniforms.

I had asked Ms. Murray a few questions about Wellness Week:

What was the idea behind setting up Wellness Week?
“The theme for this Wellness Week was 'nurturing positive emotions’. There is no doubt that the third term is an amazing time on campus - the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and the days are longer! We wanted this week to be about savouring everything that spring on campus has to offer. To help nurture feelings of joy, connection, and gratitude, students were able to attend a bonfire on the waterfront, create chalk art, attend a Friday night yoga class and fundraise for the Relay for Life. We also had a Wellness Wednesday where students were able to get outside for an hour” - and have a break from their classes.

How did you like the Wellness Week?
“I loved everything about this week. I would like to thank Brenna LK, Jessica T, Sarah G and Dylan K, as well as the BWell members and representatives who spent countless hours volunteering to make this week a success. Their energy and passion were contagious!”

Thank you so much to the BWell team and Ms Murray for setting this up. It was absolutely wonderful and such a success.
