Do you remember your middle school P.E. class? Of course you do! Many people look back on their physical education experience with disdain and disgust, wishing that was a period in their life that could be erased from the timeline, never to be spoken of or heard of again. In my opinion, there were always three groups of people in a typical middle school P.E. class: there was the group of kids who dreaded each class, and would hide in the change rooms as long as possible to avoid the atrocity of physical activity. Then, there was the well behaved group of students who were polite, followed instructions, and never interrupted the teacher during instruction. And finally, there was the self-declared jocks, most likely the only kids that actually enjoyed their time in P.E., and made it their personal mission to score the most points in floor hockey, or be the ones to unnecessarily throw the dodge balls the hardest. Personally, I always enjoyed P.E. class, and I was sad to learn I wouldn’t be able to have it anymore when my grade 9 year at Brentwood began. However, this year, my dream of once again being able to play ultimate frisbee, dodgeball, kickball, and all of the middle school P.E. classics has finally come true! One of the wonderful Brentwood teachers, Mr. De Sandoli has developed a new sports course offered here at BCS: Multisport. This program is designed for students who are open minded to a series of different sports and activities, and would like a chance to sample them. It is welcome to students of all sports backgrounds! For example, last week we played basketball, and this week we get to go rock climbing on the amazing course set up in the Foote Athletic Center, with the help of Mr Norman and Mr Rodriguez, as well as the Outdoor Pursuits athletes! So far, I am really enjoying my time in Multisport! The group consists of boys and girls from a range of grades, as well as athletic abilities, but we all have something in common: we’re there to have fun and put in our best effort. Unlike middle school P.E. class, everybody registered wants to come to Multisport, and wants to be able to make it a wonderful experience for themselves and the people around them. “I joined multisport because it makes me feel like a kid again. We play games from all sports and have fun in the process, just like P.E. back in the day” says Lulu J, Allard ‘19, this year’s Head Prefect. I’m enjoying Multisport, because I’m getting the opportunity to get to know people I haven’t yet had the chance to spend much time with in my years at Brentwood, and I am looking forward to a great term with them when we return from Spring Break!
