On December 2nd the students from both blocks of Mr Bryant’s Law Studies 12 class joined together to perform a mock trial on the murder of Debbie Halloran. The students had spent nearly a month and a half preparing for this event. The mock trial is a crucial part of the Law 12 program and even with the COVID-19 regulations, Mr Bryant was able to pull off an incredible dramatization.

The trial started with multiple witnesses being questioned after being sworn in by the clerks. Evidence was brought up and the case started to intensify. Emotions were high in the courtroom, but the tension was quickly lifted by the catchy background music playing from the evidence video of an apartment building.

There was a short period of laughter before things got serious again; the seriousness, however, was once again broken by the blatant self contradictions - leading to a lie - by Stuart Ullman played by Liam F, Privett ‘22. Callum P, Rogers ‘21, who was playing the role of a bailiff said “The trial was definitely a lot of work but it was all worth it in the end. All our hard work paid off and we had lots of fun and there were many learning curves throughout the whole thing.” Reese V, Allard ‘22 observed “It was a great experience and will forever be remembered. This trial is probably going to be the highlight for this year's Law 12 class, but I'm also excited for what's to come in future terms.”

It was a great experience for everyone. Both teams did extremely well and everyone performed greatly. None of it would have been possible without Mr Bryant's teaching and help during and before the big evening.

The night ended with the Crown team winning the case. Joy and screams of excitement were shared between the lawyers for the Crown.
