Marvelous May Midterm

As yet another year flies by for us all, Brentwood enters its final break of the school year. From May 20th until May 25th, the busyness of the campus’ spring schedule is put on hold for term 3’s midterm break. These five days away from campus look different for all of the members of Brentwood, but for the most part, the students are eager for some down time while also sad for the year to conclude.

With the school’s AP exams having just finished, these days off will be a much needed break from the past month of rigorous studying for many of the senior academics. And with finals just around the corner, term 3’s midterm break might just be the most needed one of them all. Although this time of year can be a lot of fun on campus, it is also a lot of work – not just for the students, but the teachers as well.

AP Literature and Composition 12 teacher, Ms Widenmaier, is making the most of her break, “I will be sipping champagne and enjoying the gardens of my hotel in London for this little trip of mine”. After months of preparing students for their AP exams, it sounds like a perfect get-away.

As the school year’s finish line comes into sight, all of campus is hoping for the springtime sunshine to finally arrive. These last weeks are surely the students’ favourite time of the school year – spending evenings on the field and afternoons lying by the waterfront – however the weather has not exactly been cooperating thus far.

Kai Y, Privett ‘22 says, “Even though this is always the most fun time of year with the good weather, it feels a bit strange knowing it’s all coming to an end soon”. It is indeed a bittersweet feeling this time of year for all the graduating students.

As per the break itself, May midterm seems to be used more for just having fun and relaxing than anything else. Kieran K, Whittall ‘22 admits, “My plans for the break are basically just to relax and catch up on some sleep”.

Before long, break will be over and the school year will once again be in full swing as we shoot towards the end of the year. I think it is safe to say that everyone is happy for the break and hopeful for some better weather, but also a bit sad for the school year approaching an end.
