“Mamma Mia” - The Winner Takes it All
2023 is upon us and the bustle of second term is in full swing. This is an eventful term for Brentwood’s Arts program and is famously known in our theatre company as “Musical Season” says Head Prefect Tommy M, Privett ‘23.
The musical team has chosen to perform a spectacular showing of “Mamma Mia!” With its catchy soundtrack based on ABBA hits, a heartwarming story, and striking choreography, it is shaping up to be a show that promises to leave a lasting impression on both the performers and the audience.
Coming back from winter break means newly arrived props and rehearsals on stage. Heather L, Mack ‘23, playing Sophie, admits “Practicing on stage makes the show seem so much closer. I’m so excited but we still have a lot of work to do!” While Ms Widenmaier, Mr Newns, Ms Staples and the rest of the performing crew are hard at work in whipping the performers into shape, Ms Plough and her production team chip away behind the scenes to make sure the show runs smoothly.
The backstage busy bees work hard in putting together props, creating lighting cues, and organizing microphones. Theatre Production Captain Davis P, Whittall ‘23 says “I’ve been at this school for five years and in this program for three and I have honestly never seen such an elaborate, beautiful set-up for the musical as we have this year.” Through much progress and learning, it is amazing to see the show slowly coming together through the iconic white and blue walls that stand proudly on Brentwood’s stage.
