Every year, Brentwood hosts the annual Regatta to showcase our talented rowing teams, as well as host teams from around Canada and internationally. However, Brentwood also showcases the extraordinary artwork that students have created throughout the year, a true representation of the tripartite program that is so unlike any other school, and is definitely hard to replicate.

In our Art Foundations class, we had been working on combining two very different and contrasting paintings or drawings, and replicating them as one large, combined composition. This allowed students to delve into their imagination and creativity, and create such unique, one-of-a-kind pieces to showcase in the Arts building.

Drawing and Painting student, Grace L, says that her favourite part of making artwork for the show was “getting to exhibit the art I have been working on this term, and bringing joy to the eyes of my viewers”.

Artwork varied, as some classes, such as Drawing and Painting, decided to create beautiful paper umbrellas to hang on the ceiling in patterns varying from cherry blossoms to colourful fish. Other arts, such as Ceramics, built abstract replications of mushrooms to hang in front of the Arts building entrance, and some, such as Photography, even included vibrant photos of sunsets and nature, exemplifying the beauty of the natural world and the emotion it can instill in others.

The whole Arts faculty spent hours on end putting together this fantastic show filled with professional quality art pieces, showing off to the thousands of guests visiting the school over Regatta just how talented the students, and teachers, in our Brentwood community truly are.
